Prior to reorganization of erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir, J&K State Biodiversity Board had been constituted vide SRO-57 dated 19-02-2013 under Section -22 (1) of Biodiversity Act, 2002 with its headquarters at J&K State Forest Research Institute. The Chairperson and members of the JKSBB were appointed vide SRO-58 dated 20-02-2013 with Chief Secretary as Chairperson and Administrative Secretaries of Forest Department & Agriculture Production Department, Pr. CCF & Chief Wildlife Warden as Ex-officio members. Director SFRI was appointed as Member Secretary. Five expert members were also nominated.
